EAR LOBE LIFTS ON THE RISE AT

ADVANCED COSMETIC SURGERY & LASER CENTER

Heavy Earrings and Gravity Take Their Toll

Cincinnati, Ohio — April 23, 2012 — Ear lobe repairs and reductions, (also known as Lobuloplasty), are on the rise at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center. According to Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, medical director for the center, “We have seen an increase in two types of lobe related surgeries known as the ear lobe repair and the ear lobe reduction.” Mendelsohn averages several of these procedures a week.

Mendelsohn says, “The weight of heavy earrings worn over the years can take its toll on the ear lobes. One problem that can commonly occur as a direct result is a progressive stretching of the actual hole. In some cases, the hole stretches so far that it actually reaches the end of the ear lobe, making it impossible to wear pierced earrings. We can fix this problem with an ear lobe repair or Lobuloplasty, and close up the hole while the patient is under local anesthesia, in about ten minutes. It is that easy. The patient can have their ears re-pierced in about 4 weeks.”

He adds, “The second problem we see is a stretching of the actual lobe itself. Sagging lobes can be a telltale sign of aging. Just as our neckline or jowls tend to sag as gravity takes its toll, the ear lobes often being to sag as a direct result of aging, and the weight of heavy earrings can often accelerate this process. We can actually reshape the lobe, and make it smaller resulting in a more youthful appearance. This procedure also takes about ten to fifteen minutes and is performed under local anesthesia.”
