Protect your skin this summer, a friendly reminder from our esthetician Coni.
A little factoid, Did you know?
80-100% of cutaneous aging is due to external factors such as sun exposure.
How can you protect your skin?
Wear Sunscreen! Sunscreens are products combining several ingredients that help prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. Two types of ultraviolet radiation UVA and UVB, damages the skin and increase your risk of skin cancer. Sunscreens vary in their ability to protect against UVA and UVB.
Physical Block: Include Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide: protects from sunburn by deflecting UV rays from penetrating the skin. Over the counter sunscreens contain little to no physical blockers. Obagi Skin Care has a great Physical UV Block SPF 32 as shown here.
SPF (Sun Protection Factor): SPF is not the amount of protection; it indicates how long it will take for UVB rays to redden the skin when using a sunscreen. Obagi Skin Care has a great SPF 35 as shown here that is the perfect size to carry with you while your out at the ball game or meeting a friend at the park for lunch.
To determine how long it will last, use the following formula:
SPF # times 3 = total minutes of coverage
(Divide by 2 if swimming)
Remember to wear a hat!
