CINCINNATI, OH — August 23, 2016 — According to Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, medical director of Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, stem cells will soon play a large role in treating many types of skin conditions, scarring, and even hair regeneration.
Says Mendelsohn, “The use of stem cells for clinical applications in the plastic surgery field has progressed a good deal over the past decade. Multipotent adult stem cells are easily accessed by plastic surgeons during routine surgical procedures.”

However, the fat graft can be absorbed by the body at any time, and there is no way of predicting the absorption level. The use of stem cells has been proven to increase fat graft survival through a technique called a cell-assisted lipotransfer or CAL.”
Stem cell therapy can also potentially reduce the surgical risks for elderly patients, particularly when it is used for the treatment of bony and soft tissue defects such as traumatic skin defects, severe burns, scars, skin ulcers, sores, and diabetic feet.
Additionally, stem cells may also potentially be used to combat baldness by regrowing hair follicles for particular types of hair loss.”
