CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A new trend in reducing wrinkles might surprise you.

More and more men are coming into area doctors’ offices, especially for Botox, a drug prepared from the bacterial toxin known as botulin.

Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, a facial plastic surgeon, says one of its top uses is for faces.

“It is frown line and forehead,” said Dr. Mendelsohn.

Mainly because it temporarily paralyzes the muscles to reduce wrinkles.

“For me, it’s just a minimal line that you can’t see anymore,” said Josh Habig. “I think it’s living your best life. It gives me a little pep in my step to amplify everything else I have to bring to the table.”

Dr. Mendelsohn says there are likely several things bringing more men in for Botox, from ads targeting guys to competitive job markets.

“Certainly, competing in the job place, age is deterrent for men as well as women, and so we see a lot of men considering retiring, five years from retiring, those in the computer science world, but they are old by standards,” said Dr. Mendelsohn.

“I think it’s more so generational. When I look at my generation, in terms of self-care and regimes, it’s very different than our parents’ generation,” said Habig.

The one danger, according to Dr. Mendelsohn, is overdoing it. Once those wrinkles are gone, you won’t likely want them back.

But a word of warning: You also don’t want the frozen face look.

The cost has come down some, but it’s still anywhere from $300 to $1,200 dollars depending on how much you need.

It’s not covered for cosmetic reasons by insurance. Some of the headache treatments are covered with Botox.
