SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER
Time To Get A Skin Evaluation!
Cincinnati, Ohio –August 26, 2009 — The summer is almost over, and the longer days of winter lie ahead. The end of summer is the perfect time to get a full skin evaluation, or head to toe “body check,” says Dr. Jon E. Mendelsohn, of the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center.
With a nationwide shortage of dermatologists, and a wait-time of up to 3-6 months here in the tri-state, many patients have been discouraged. Mendelsohn encourages any patients who are experiencing and excessive wait-time, and who has reason to believe that they may have any type of skin cancer, to immediately seek a medical evaluation from a plastic surgeon. “Any type of suspect skin lesion should be evaluated right away,” says Mendelsohn, “and 3-6 months is just too long to wait. I can get patients needing any type of skin evaluation in the door in a matter of weeks. I am used to assisting and consulting with dermatologists on a regular basis, so it is very logical for me to reach out and offer these type of services to our patients.”
What specifically can a plastic surgeon such as Dr. Mendelsohn do to help these patients and what will insurance cover?
- They can perform basic skin evaluations and do perform “shave excisions” on any suspect areas (rather than using liquid nitrogen which often leaves a whitish depression)
- These excisions leave no residual scarring and no “telltale” signs.
- If the lesions require removal, they can be “excised” by the plastic surgeon, and also reconstructed as necessary.
- Can insurance cover the plastic surgeon’s fee as it would a dermatologist?
In many cases insurance companies will cover these services, but the majority of the time, the patients prefer to pay cash as the cost for the basic skin evaluation is very reasonable, starting at just $75.00. An extra $75.00 isn’t much to pay when the other option is waiting 3-6 months.
