Dr. Mendelsohn sells prints from Tanzania, Rwanda to benefit The Mendelsohn Foundation For The Arts

By March 23, 2018Uncategorized

Dr. Jon E. Mendelsohn, medical director of Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, accompanied by his wife and two teenaged children, recently traveled to the East African country of Tanzania where they met a very special group of children living in an orphanage.308204tn300

Team Mendelsohn arrived armed with medical supplies, art projects, t-shirts and other learning materials for the children. While in Tanzania, Dr. Mendelsohn performed a minor surgical procedure on one of the children.

The Mendelsohn’s also brought along some clay butterflies for the children to decorate with paint. The butterflies were shipped back to Cincinnati and shared with a group of children that participate in Happen, Inc.’s art enrichment based programs in Northside, funded in part by The Mendelsohn Foundation For The Arts. The children in Tanzania and Cincinnati have become long distance pen pals that correspond on a regular basis.

While in Africa, the Mendelsohn family also traveled to the Republic of Rwanda, in the African Great Lakes region, where they were able to get a close-up view of the mountain gorillas and many other magnificent creatures that inhabit this region. An avid amateur photographer, Dr. Mendelsohn captured hundreds of spectacular photos of the peoples and creatures that inhabit Rwanda, including lions, cheetahs, jaguars, giraffes, elephants, wildebeest, zebras, exotic birds, monkeys, and the magnificent mountain gorillas.

The framed prints of the beautiful wildlife and people that Mendelsohn captured during the family’s travels are now on display and available for purchase at The Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Rookwood Tower in Hyde Park, and all proceeds benefit The Mendelsohn Foundation For The Arts. The clay butterflies painted by the children in Tanzania are also available for purchase, and make a beautiful lawn ornament.
