It’s Cupid’s Bows and The World’s Sexiest Lips and Lattes in this Valentine’s edition of What’s in and what’s out and what’s hot and what’s definitely NOT in the world of plastic surgery with Josh and Julie. What’s hot? It’s not just this Latte – it’s Cupid’s Bow Lips! Yep you can have a “perkier pout” this Valentine’s Day with a little help from injectable fillers. The cupid’s bow is a facial feature where the double curve of a human upper lip is said to resemble the bow of Cupid, the Roman god of Erotic Love. The Cupid’s Bow technique involves using small amounts of hyaluronic fillers along the border of your lip (the area you would apply lip liner) to sculpt and define the “cupid’s bow.” Then a small to moderate amount of filler is added to the body of the lips to enhance fullness.

So it’s all about enhancing the shape of the lip rather than inflating the entire lip area. The end result is a look quite similar to the lips of both Taylor Swift and Rhianna, who were both naturally, (or perhaps artificially), blessed with a Cupid’s Bow, and who came in first and second place, respectively for the “world’s sexiest lips.” What’s also very hot is plumper, poutier, kissable lips (puckers up and makes sexy, kissy face) for Valentine’s Day! Sadly our lips, like about everything else on our body, lose volume as we age, becoming thinner. Fillers are a great way to restore that volume, or even make them much fuller and more luscious than they ever were before. When injected in the upper lip, fillers can also help reduce the appearance of those pesky vertical “smoker’s lines” on the upper lips. But fillers are also extremely popular with the young Millennials as well, with patients from coast-to-coast requesting those sexy Kylie Jenner lips.

Lip filler injections take just a few minutes, but the results last about a year. A topical numbing cream is usually applied to minimize any discomfort you might feel. Some patients experience mild swelling and bruising which may last a few days, so it’s best not to schedule your procedure in the days leading up to a major event.

Although fillers are reversable, you might want to be a bit conservative on the first treatment, as you can always add more in a few weeks. If you ARE considering lip fillers, please come well prepared. Ask your injector how many of these procedures he/she has performed and ask to see photos of real patients with their end results. Share your expectations with your provider – do you want a subtle look, a fuller, more obvious look, or an overfilled look like Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna?
