The team at the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center is joining us today to share details on a new robot that assist with hair transplants, Dr. Jon Mendelsohn. Hello to you. Now, I know this is a tedious process, so tell us how this helps kind of shorten that process. And right behind me here, you can see the Artas Robot is with more precision and more adeptness. It can harvest 2000 grafts per hour. So you’re seeing our technicians clean the graphs as they’re being harvested. And what the harvest means is we’re going to borrow donor hair from the back so that we can place it where we want in the recipient area.

 

Okay, So you gave us sort of some extra video that has like an animation of how this works. Just kind of talk me through what is the robot doing? It’s kind of acting like your arms, is it not? Yeah, it’s like, you know, we’ll call it artificial intelligence, but with robotics and advanced technology, the robot is sensing with its two eyes the length of the hair, the angle of the hair is growing. And you can see very precisely how it’s harvesting. So it’s a two step process. There’s a needle that will make a small incision in the epidermis. And then there’s a punch that will actually gently suction the the hair from that position.

 

Our technicians will take it from there. And after the harvesting is done, we’ll go, as I mentioned a moment ago, we’ll go ahead and the robot can actually implant the hair as well. But depending upon the region of the scalp, it’s a combination of using the robot as well as our human technicians with with a lot of experience. Yeah, some things just can’t be replaced. And that human eye is very, very important. Okay, so you actually sent us some video where you’d used a little of this. We want to show that. Have you found already is it making a significant difference. Oh, it is. It truly is amazing. I was overwhelmed. This is the 10th generation of this robot, actually. And, you know, we were waiting for software upgrades and technology, like with everything else that have advanced a lot. And so the algorithms that allow us to extract the hair have advanced a lot. We find that the rapidity, how fast this is allows our technicians to a little more downtime during the procedure. That is, this is a tedious procedure.

 

This can go on for 6 or 8 hours. But by allowing the robot to assist us, it allows our technicians to more precisely spend their time placing the hair. Okay, most important thing, we’ve got some great before and afters. We’ll see these results in, what, about six months or so? You will. The hair will begin to grow in about three months, 3 to 4 months, and we’ll see final results, usually between 6 to 8 months.
