Spider Vein Treatment Post Care Instructions

By February 12, 2015Uncategorized

Do I really have to wear stockings after leg vein treatment?

Stockings are commonly worn after spider or varicose vein treatment. They are called graduated compression because they are tighter at the feet and ankles and gradually become looser as you move up the leg. Most of our patients are asked to wear the stockings for only 48 hours (2 days), taking them off for a brief shower.

The purpose of the stockings is to provide compression of the treated veins after sclerotherapy to assist in the gradual shutdown of the vessels. The improvement of venous blood flow also assists in the healing of bruises and marks visible after treatment, and minimizes the chance for pigmentation over the treated veins.

While recommendations will vary, you will be wearing your stockings anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks after treatment, depending on the size and severity of the veins treated.spiderveins
