How does QWO work?

How does QWO work? QWO is the first and only FDA approved injectable for treatment of moderate to severe cellulite of the buttocks in adult women. It is collagenase clostridium histolyticum, an enzyme produced in the lab.

It’s believed that QWO works by initiating a series of tissue changes called enzymatic subscision and remodeling, or ESR. What this means is that the injection breaks down the fibrous septae or bands of connective tissue causing the cellulite.

If you think of an inflatable air mattress when it’s inflated, the connections holding the top and the bottom together pull against each other, causing a dimple in the air mattress. Your skin is held onto the body by connective tissues called septae, and some of these may be tight, causing cellulite. This can occur regardless of your weight, level of fitness, although weight loss, massage and muscle toning are used to attempt to minimize the appearance.

Cellulite tends to be genetic, so you just might be stuck with it. However, with QWO, by breaking down the connective SEPTA, the dimpling of cellulite is released and relaxed, allowing for skin smoothing. In addition, the fat lobules are reorganized as the bands release, and the process initiates development of new collagen to help thicken the dermis or skin. QWO has been studied in over 1,800 patients, the largest of any cellulite study ever, and showed improvement from baseline, in a majority of patients.

Common side effects are bruising, tenderness, swelling and itching, all of which did not cause downtime and resolved within twenty one days. Bruising can be severe.
