CINCINNATI (WKRC) — A newer style of facelift, known as the deep plane facelift, is gaining attention for its ability to provide a more natural and long-lasting youthful appearance. Dr. Jon Mendelsohn of the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center explained the technique, which involves making an incision and elevating the skin along with a layer called the SMAS, or superficial musculoaponeurotic system.

“It’s better to go deeper so it’s a nice, natural repositioning of the tissues,” said Dr. Mendelsohn. “Again, it’s long-lasting and you don’t have the telltale signs that we had 20 years ago.”
The deep plane facelift is considered to have results that last between 10 to 15 years. Although not permanent, Dr. Mendelsohn noted, “It is as long-lasting as any type of lifting procedure that exists.”
